Back From Ashes: Back From Ashes

Back From Ashes self titled 6 song EP is a pretty raunchy mix of powerful riffing and angry vocals with hooks. Hailing from the desert in Phoenix, AZ, this 5 piece band mixes up elements of Pantera, Trivium and Mudvayne and throws in a bit more melody to make it more "user friendly".

The production is great on this EP which means that the drums punch you in the head, the bass is nice & tight, the guitars leap out at you and the vocals are super clear. Executive Producer, Ryan Greene, gets kudos for an excellent job here. This is a Modern Metal record all the way with the vocals being split with throaty screams & shouts to more soulful vocals. Songs like "Welcome To Me" with its heavy Mudvayne groove and Mushroomhead type chorus and vocal styling's and CD opener, "Misery", has a very Disturbed type of riff and feel to it. Both very in your face rockers and good songs.

With only 6 tracks on Back From Ashes EP, this is almost a teaser of what is to come from these guys. It is a very solid effort here and while they remind the listener of other contemporary bands out on the Metal scene, they do bring their own melodic sense to the game. This is a quite a good listen from a band that I had never heard of before. If you are a fan of the more Modern Metal of today, you will be a fan of Back From Ashes.
