Fleshsuit: Perfect

They call the album perfect. While I cannot go that far, it is a record that metalheads and lovers of good rock and roll will thoroughly enjoy for sure! These guys from Indianapolis, Indiana know how to throw a serious scorching at you while also providing some soothing salve along the way too.

In this day and age, I very seldom get a chance to hear a band that is willing to take a risk. Too many try to fit the mold and look to what will sell records in the programmed world of music. Fleshsuit is one of the bands that not only break the mold; they shatter it to pieces with a multi-dimensional disc that exemplifies all that rock and roll is about. Taking chances, experimenting and going where the music takes you instead of trying to mass produce the same garbage as everyone else.

From the start, when you are roughly assaulted with the massive guitar thrashing that is the beginning of the song "Invisible" it is likely that you will start to develop a serious case of head bangatosis as they show you their metal roots with this wicked piece. Even on this song though, there is moments when their deeper linage shines through. I can hear the residue of growing up listening to the prior generation's rock and roll. Shades of Pantera, Metallica and even earlier heavy metal masters seep through as you realize this is a band that has taken a look to the past while making a record that captures this sense of rock and roll history with a fresh approach that is as new and exciting as you are going to find.

Another aspect that sets this disc apart is the diversity in musical styles that they use to captivate you. The melodic moments of "Beautiful", the psychedelic feel of "Promise" and the ability to take a step back with the power ballad "Right Before My Eyes" are examples of how they never can be accused of resting on their laurels. From stirring melodies to bone crunching metal, these guys are not afraid to bring it on!

One of my favorite moments on the album is the very Skynard like song "Counting Down". Within this five and a half minute song, the amazing ability and diversification of this band comes crashing down on you as this tune goes from stirring power ballad to melodic metal that grabs you with its dramatic intensity. This is a highlight for sure but just one of many on this disc.

The other thing that is a major factor in how enjoyable this disc is has to be the vocal abilities of lead singer Ryan. He exemplifies the term; from a whisper to a scream! While being very melodic with a terrific singing voice, Ryan then takes it to a crunching screaming growl when it's warranted. He has a range that many a singer can only wish they had and he uses it to perfection.

For fans of good hard metal, this is a must have disc. For those that like melodic structure along with their head banging, this is a must have disc. Let's just make this simple…you should own this one if you are into metal at all. These guys bring it and bring it with a passion.
