Bryden, Nell: What Does It Take?

Taking some time away from entertaining the troops in Iraq and Kuwait, New Yorker Nell Bryden's second studio album will shortly receive an official release in the UK. The appealing 2008 single 'Second Time Around' saw Nell receive huge plaudits and airplay and her unique and soulful voice is a sheer delight. Musically you can hear elements of bluegrass, jazz, country and soul and any of the eleven songs here could be considered as single material. The emphasis here is on nostalgia and retro and this is something that manifests itself not just in the music but also the CD package and, of course, Nell's sense of style which could have been lifted straight out of the 1940's. Songs such as 'Where The Pavement Ends' and 'Helen's Requiem' tell a story through their poignant words and convey a vibrant imagery. The range of vocal styles are simply breathtaking, from the haunting 'Goodbye' to the sassy 'Green Dress' and it seems only a matter of time before Nell Bryden receives global recognition.
