Dodsferd: Suicide and the Rest of Your Kind Will Follow

The man behind Dodsferd, Wrath has to be one of black metal's more prolific artists in recent years as he returns with his fourth full length release in slightly over two years. Suicide and the Rest of Your Kind Will Follow out on Moribund Records is album number two in his planed trilogy and comes hot on the heels of last year's Death Set the Beginning of My Journey disc.

What you get here are two epic compositions reeking of pure black metal hatred and blasphemy. The title track is nothing less than a twenty minute trip into the inner bowels of hell. Unfortunately for almost three quarters of this track he sticks to pretty much the same repetitive guitar riff over and over again ad nauseam, before the drum patterns finally change things up briefly around the fifteen minute mark. The vocals much like his last album are inaudible, tortured screams of a dying animal, so you really have no clue as to the level of hatred that he's ranting on about. The second track "His Veins Colored The Room" begins with what sounds like a violin or some kind of similar stringed instrument giving off these disturbing high pitched screams in the background, amid more of his retched, incoherent howling. This one slides into a mid tempo, hypnotic groove and the guitars actually have some semblance of a melody at times, yet that stringed instrumentation continues throughout and really grates on the nerves, much like nails across a chalkboard.

While Dodsferd has always been an individual known for blazing his own path, I think Suicide and the Rest of Your Kind Will Follow will prove to be a hard sell even by his standards.
