Makota, Kawabata / Shinsuke, Michishita : Sex, Voyage, and Echo Chamber
What is it about musicians who feel they can pawn guitar feedback off as some kind of inspired artistic statement? That will surely be first and foremost on and each and every listener's mind when they come across this collaboration between two masters of the Japanese underground, Kawabata Makota (Acid Mother's Temple) & Michishita Shinsuke (LSD March).
The music (if you want to call it that) on this four song collection is pretty much nothing more than a bad joke. If the opening track "Me and Bitter, Psychedelic Tokyo", which contains some interesting echo chamber effects can be considered the high point of this disc then the tracks "Point of Point" and "Rome No.9" are definitely the lowest. The former sounds like the two musicians are plucking away at a foreign instrument for the first time, while the latter is an excruciatingly painful, seventeen minute track that is akin to passing a constipated bowel movement through a guitar. I like to think that I have an open mind musically when it comes to off the wall avant-garde statements like this, but I honestly can't imagine anyone wanting to sit through this one. Bombs away!
