OGOGO: Lunar Surphase

ONONO? That's the reaction some listeners may have to OGOGO when they push play on Lunar Surphase a cleverly titled album that dares you to expect the unexpected. Based on the avant-garde improvisations of Russian guitarist/composer/arranger/conductor Igor Grigoriev, the often-atonal music on his sixth OGOGO project is held together via sizzling strands of techno-gibberish and occasional mind-blowing solos ("Too Much" and the title track) that demonstrate Igor knows his way around actual song structures. Add Andrei Soloyov's trumpet and flute to burbling songs like "Dali" and "Autoportrait With Ginja" and slide in the unwieldy but fascinating sounds of Rod Oakes' MIDI trombone on "Can You Feel It" and you've got some serious eclectic music that will either wake you up or make you want to hit somebody.
