Bulletmonks: Weapons Of Mass Destruction

Despite this being 2009 and this band being from Germany, Bulletmonks definitely sound like they could have been born during the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBH).They give off a very similar vibe to those proto-metal bands of yesteryear. On Weapons Of Mass Destruction, the band's debut release, these Teutonic terrors rip through 12 tracks of old school heavy rock with plenty of backbeat and soaring twin lead guitars. The band just oozes energy and attitude. The playing is tight and extremely proficient. Tyler Voxx's slightly gravelly, midranged voice is the perfect complement for the fiery fretwork he and fellow guitarist "Dangerous Dan" unleash, over the solid bass playing of Spearce Jackson, and the extremely competent drumming of "M.Dogg". The whole thing comes together in a very cohesive package, that will have the listener pumping his fist and laying down some serious air guitar riffs.

If you're into the kind of heavy rock you'll want to crank up on your car stereo as you blast off down the highway to hell, Weapons Of Mass Destruction can surely fill the bill. Nothing "Nu" about this release. This debut disc gives off a heavy stink of authenticity. It kicked me upside the head with the first listen and hasn't failed to raise my blood level with repeated spins.
