Hale, Bill: Metallica-The Club Dayz 1982-1984 (book)

Though there's really not many pages here (112 to be exact), it's what's inside that really counts. Metallica-The Club Dayz 1982-1984 is a book put together by rock photographer Bill Hale, who spent 2 years with a young upstart metal band called Metallica back in the early 80's. Hale, using his personal photo collection of the band from those times (many of which have never been seen before) tells the tale of a young band, on the verge of discovering their powers and putting the building blocks in place that would soon help them take over the world. The early years of Ron McGovney and Dave Mustaine are here in glorious color and black & white, as are the critical time when Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton joined the band in what became the turning point when Metallica quickly rose up to metal stardom. Through Hale's photos, you can see just what a talent Mustaine was at an early age, a guitar god in the making with plenty of stage persona, but his wild lifestyle prevented the band from making the strides it needed to at that time, so in came Hammett from rival band Exodus. Though for many whose images of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich only span back to the last 20 years or so, seeing these pics of them as naive, headbanging youngstars, will spark a new outlook on the duo.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is not some thick, all-encompassing tome on the world of Metallica, but a brief picture album so to speak of their formative years that any Metallica fan will want to check out and add to their bookshelf.
