Isole: Silent Ruins

Here is another of those promos covered with annoying voice overs. This time around, Napalm used a girl who can't even tell the album title properly. What in the world is "Redemption Part 1", she kept saying twice on every single song from track #4 to 7?

Isole is back with the fourth release of their career and second with Napalm Records. I remember, from having partly listened their previous album, Bliss of Solitude , that Isole was a pretty good Doom Metal band. Silent Ruins though is more like an average release. True that voice overs are decreasing the hearing pleasure, even more so when they happened during calm/acoustic parts, but I would say this new work is sort of half and half. Half of this work is pretty ordinary and melodic. The other parts are more on target. The better half has great crunchy riffs, darkness, acoustic guitars, some rare growls and pounding percussions. There the pace is mostly moderate and harmonious arpeggios, teaming up with distorted and down-tuned guitars, to create a typically tasty Doom Metal atmosphere. Some of the weaknesses you'll find on this disc are: vocal range too high ("Nightfall"), or simply not much going on to mention like on "Forlorn". The good material can be heard on tracks such as the opener "From the Dark", "Hollow Shrine" and "Soulscarred", the last two include some splendid acoustic guitars. Closing song, "Dark Clouds" is a very Doom/bone crushing opus, filled with somber moments, and is the best track on this disc.
