The Endless Blockade: Primitive

The Endless Blockade is a cult out of Toronto that specializes in something called power violence. One listen to their latest offering Primitive had me instantly convinced that this was one hell of a caustic sounding motherf**ker! Remember Nailbomb the mid 90's collaboration between ex-Sepultura front man Max Cavalera and Alex Newport from Fudge Tunnel? Well if you think of Primitive as being a heavier continuation of that unit's thrash / punk power and industrial overtones that should give you a pretty good starting point as far as their musical template is concerned.

Armed with interior quotes from the book of Acts, Hakim Bey, Squeaky Fromme, The Kmer Rouge and Nietzsche only scratches the surface in attempting to describe how this acerbic aural soundtrack blends with their written imagery. These thirteen tracks are all swiftly executed with such an unbridled amount of intensity and aggression it's enough to make your head spin. Except for the final track "Do Not Resuscitate" which clocks in at over seven minutes nothing else on Primitive runs longer than two and half minutes. The guitars are out to annihilate, the tempos are delivered at a breakneck pace and the vocals often resort to nothing more than a series of unintelligible screams. Rather simplistic in its overall execution yet in the end the sheer amount of primal aggression on display here is just too hard to ignore. It's rather cathartic actually.
