Tribulation: The Horror

Thirty two minutes of solid, if unspectacular blackened death metal, that's what you get on The Horror, the latest from Tribulation. Gotta give these guys credit, they sure do pack quite a bit of inventive riffs and early 80's style guitar solos into each 3-4 minute blast of terror, clearly invoking such acts as Immortal, Celtic Frost, Cirith Ungol, and Satyricon, though the songs move at such a brisk pace that you barely get to sink your teeth into them before they dissipate and the next one is pummeling your eardrums. Not a bad thing however, as The Horror really does contain some satisfying extreme metal, though it would be nice to hear Tribulation take a more epic stance on some of these arrangements and flesh a few songs out a little longer. They obviously have the chops, as the guitar and drum work is quite savage and precise, and the blackened shrieks and growls of J. Andersson are spot on throughout. It's pretty obvious that this CD will find plenty of followers out there, and it's safe to assume that Tribulation are without a doubt a band to look out for…just as long as you understand that these are roads previously travelled, then by all means enjoy.
