Boxcutter: The Ill Testament

Let me state right off the bat, The Ill Testament will probably have absolutely no appeal to readers of Sea of Tranquility whose main interest is prog-rock, progressive metal, black metal, jazz fusion, power metal, or death metal. So, who the hell are Boxcutter you ask? Well, they are somewhat of a hardcore supergroup featuring members of Eulogy, Krutch, Fury of Five, and Out Ta Win, and they've put together a collection of hardcore/gangsta rap/hip hop tunes here on The Ill Testament that is litterally all over the place stylistically speaking. One minute they will bludgeon you with hardcore ferocity, at others they hint at the rap-metal scene of the late 90's/early 2000's, but more often than not Boxcutter dip into a rap/hip hop style that will be a real turn off to those not into that scene. Production wise, this thing is pretty good from a sonic perspective, and when the guys get down to actually trying to crank out some brutality, there's plenty of muscle in their riffs (like on Ghetto Story, Part 2" and "Let's Do This"), but the overabundance of rap vocals tends to hinder this release and limit its appeal to the extreme genres.

My Score:

one little correction:

Boxcutter does have members of Wisdom In Chains, NOT Eulogy members as said in the text. Eulogy Records is the label of Wisdom In Chains. Other members previous bands are Fury Of Five, Out To Win and Krutch.
