Misguided Aggression: Hatchala

Canada's Misguided Aggression have hooked up with Kerosene Media & Year of the Sun for their full length debut Hatchala, a pretty brutal affair that should be of interest to fans of modern extreme metal. From the opening riffs of the title track, it's plainly obvious that these guys worship the ground that Lamb of God, Meshuggah, and Unearth walk on. From the vocals, which are straight out of the LoG school, to the complex, mechanized rhythms that recall Meshuggah, to the melodic thrash & hardcore leanings of Unearth, this one screams of all three bands yet Misguided Aggression put it all together and make it their own. Despite the lack of originality here, what these guys do they do well, and there's plenty of solid headbanging going on throughout this CD. "Pigs in the Market" features some damn mighty riffs and some epic, almost Nile-ish horn treatments, while pieces like "Our Kingdom Come", "Faces of Abomination", and "Flesh to Gold" has a fair share of crushing breakdowns, nimble guitar solos & hamonies, blood curdling growls, and frantic rhythms. It's all well played and executed, and despite the fact that you'll get a feeling of deja-vu throughout Hatchala, it's still pretty enjoyable extreme metal nontheless.
