Seance is a Swedish death metal/thrash band that toiled around the scene in the 1990's, broke up in 1998, saw its members spend time in band's like Witchery, Satanic Slaughter and The Haunted, then reunite recently for their comeback album Awakening of the Gods. Though this Pulverised Records release is not going to win any awards for originality, you've got to give Seance credit for creating a good old fashioned death metal album here. Chock full of thick, crunchy riffs, double bass drum mayhem, lurid lyrical content, and monstrous vocal growls, Awakening of the Gods is a can't miss purchase for fans of Grave, Entombed, Deicide, and the like. The galloping rhythms and beef-o-rama riffs of tunes like "They", "Invocation", "Choose Your Eternity", and the raging "Forever Haunted" are extemely well done, and the arrangements quite memorable. Things even border on the technical ends of the death metal spectrum on "Burn Me" and "Prisoner 666", complex guitar/bass/drum interplay really kicking things up a notch, and the band throws in two short instrumentals as well to add some variety factor here.
Like I mentioned earlier, nothing you haven't heard before, but it's solid all around and certainly if you are a fan of Scandinavian death metal you'll want to check Awakening of the Gods out.
