Gee, I am glad this is over! Good thing it lasts, a rather long, 38 minutes! Kommandant is a five piece band from Chicago, and like their label mate Wastelander, are deeply warlike minded. Maybe it's the label's (Planet Metal) policy to sign only bands that are into military crap.
Kommandant has two guitar players on crew, and one could expect some stuff like guitar interactions, harmonies and so on, but it is not really the case here, alas. You do have some tremolo pickings galore on Storm Legion , but nothing one single player can't do. The simplistic song structure is being repeated from beginning to end. Consisting of fast tempos, fast tremolo pickings, rough raspy voices, and a battle-like rhythm section. The production is a bit raw, suiting the brutal, threatening, furious and warlike blend of Black /Thrash and Death Metal. The pace calms down in a couple spots and we can even hear some dissonant leads and nice crushing riffs on "Seige Engine", overall the best track being offered. Opener, "Skiltron" as well as closer, "The Aftermath", are some kind of atmospheric (warlike) instrumentals. Other than that, it's pretty much a boring and redundant series of brutal military anthems.
The war is over!
