Prostitute Disfigurement: Descendants Of Depravity

Dutch death metal act Prostitute Disfigurement (yeah, bizarre name) return with their fourth release Descendants Of Depravity on Neurotic/Willowtip Records. Still as savage and brutal as ever, the band are now incorporating more technical playing in their arrangements, no doubt trying to keep up with acts such as Origin, Deeds of Flesh, Spawn of Possession, Decrepit Birth, and the like. One quick look at the monstrous cover art by famed artist Par Olofsson will give you plenty of insight into what you can expect here on Descendants Of Depravity-pure, unadulterated death metal, crammed with vile and sadistic lyrical content, crushing guitar riffs, manic drum blasts, and evil vocal growls. There's plenty of hot tracks here, such as "The Sadist King And The Generallissimo Of Pain", the bludgeoning "Storm Of The Fiend", and the mix of old school death metal with some complex riffery that is "Carnal Rapture". Kudos to vocalist Niels, who has one of the better growls in the business (you can actually make out much of what he is singing), and the overall musicianship is top notch throughout, the bass, drum, and guitar work pummeling yet tight. Surprisingly, for stuff this brutal, there's a good amount of melody to be found here, and some of the songs have some catchy riffs and wild solos as well. The band pulls out all the stops on the intense "Sworn To Degeneracy" a fast paced number with blinding lead guitar work, intricate riffs, and blazing drum blasts from Michiel.

If you are lucky to get a copy of the limited edition, there's a bonus DVD included that features a full show from 2007's Dynamo Festival. Shot professionally with a few cameras, this show is a good representation of the pulverizing Prostitute Disfigurement live set as of 2007. As an added bonus, there's also the video for "The Sadist King And The Generallissimo Of Pain" and some goofy backstage footage, making this an all-around quality package from this veteran band. It's pretty safe to say with material like this, these guys won't be underground too much longer before the extreme metal masses pick up on what they are doing.
