Places Of Power: Now Is The Hour

WOW, what other word can I write that sums up this release any better? Now Is The Hour is one of the best Melodic Hard Rock releases to come out in years and a pleasure to review. No track skipping worries here, instead of the forward you'll be looking for the rewind button for repeated listens. The fact that this is Places Of Power's debut makes this unquestionably that much more impressive, and I can think of numerous releases from other established bands that aren't as consistent.

Places Of Power is the result of Bruce Turgon and Philip Bardowell joining forces, Bruce having previously worked with such acts as Foreigner, Lou Gramm, Atomic Playboys and Philip with Unruly Child and Magdalen. This duo has the experience to back up their ambitions with this new band. Now Is The Hour features Philip on lead vocals, Scott Mckinstry contributed lead guitars and Bruce served up the remainding instruments.

Once this album gets going with "In Your Wildest Dreams" I was hooked and I thoroughly enjoyed the change from my usually harder edged diet of music. The choruses are very infectious especially tracks like the vibrant "Always" and "Light Up My World".

Now Is The Hour is a splendid melodic album full of wonderful harmonies, sure to have many fans singing along. Places Of Power have set themselves a level that will require something special to reach with their next album.
