Beyrodt, Alex: Alex Beyrodt's Voodoo Circle

Voodoo Circle sounds like something you would be wise not to enter, but not this one, in fact the new project from guitar wiz Alex Beyrodt will have metal fans diving in. Alex is known more recently for his super group Silent Force, with the fine talents of vocalist D C Cooper and faultless musicianship all-round. Silent Force play a lively blend of neo classical/power metal, but Voodoo Circle's music of choice being melodic hard rock/metal. I'm sure there will be comparisons between the two, but I don't see the point once you hear the difference apart from that familiar guitar sound. This isn't another Silent Force, Voodoo Circle is another impressive band for us to enjoy.

Joining the master guitarist is the experienced line-up of Mel Gaynor(Gary Moore, Brian May) on drums, David Readman (Pink Cream 69) on vocals, Mat Sinner(Primal Fear, Sinner) on bass ,and Jimmy Kresic on the keyboards. But wait, there's more, guest spots from vocalist Doogie White (Yngwie Malmsteen), bass from Rudy Sarzo (Whitesnake), guitarist Norifumi Shima (Concerto Moon) and keyboardist Richard Andersson (Majestic, Space Odyssey. So when you put all this talent in the mix, expectations are it's going to result in a special release.

Voodoo Circle reminds me at times of the enjoyable catchy heavy melodic rockers Yngwie J. Malmsteen has released over the years, tracks like "Spewing Lies", "Desperate Heart" and "We'll Never Learn". "White Lady Requim" is a fun instrumental track with many tempo changes and sees Alex Beyrodt's guitar blazing handy work. Alex's playing is the focal point but there are many top contributions to be found on this CD, making it more like a band than a solo project.

Alex Beyrodt's Voodoo Circle is a fine album for those who appreciate impressive melodic rock/metal.
