Are you ready for one hell of a musical explosion? Well, that's exactly what you will be in store for with the latest from Sweden's Crowpath (no, not Crowbar, Counting Crows, just plain old Crowpath) titled One With Filth. Though the CD is barely over 30 minutes in length, there's nary a wasted nanosecond here, Crowpath busting through the gate with the furious title track and never looking back from that moment on. Kind of hard to classify these Swede's, though make no mistake about it, they are extreme all the way. One second they hit you full bore with their complex math/progressive metal 'chops from hell' delivery, the next they launch into a ultra heavy stoner rock groove, and before you get settled the band knocks you upside the head with some pummeling & ferocious death metal. Basically, no matter what style these guys dive into here on One With Filth, it all works. Technically speaking, Patrik Lundh (guitars/bass), Erik Hall (drums), and Henrik Ivarsson (vocals) can do it all-Lundh is a monster shredder who can riff with the best of them, and Hall is a living dynamo on his kit. Ivarsson has a full arsenal of voices at his disposal, from maniacal screams to deep growls of every tone and texture, and he uses them all here. Whether you like the intricate, math-metal tracks like "Cleansed in Chlorine" and "Fondling the Grotesque" , or the more groove laden and chunky pieces such as "The Hunt", "Septic Monarch", and "Where Dolls Do Sin"(be prepared for some FAT riffs!), it's all done so well, the band grabbing you by the throat and not letting go until the final strains of the psychedelic closer "Retarded Angel".
Yes, it's hard to categorize, and no, it won't be for the faint of heart, but if you have an adventurous side and like your metal complex, varied, and quite extreme, give One With Filth a try.
