Nugent, Ted: Full Bluntal Nugity

Eagle Records has issued a re-release of Ted Nugent's New Year's Eve show on 12/31/00 from The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Full Bluntal Nugity. "Uncle" Ted has delivered the goods on this 12 track live CD with one the BEST bands that has ever graced the stage with him in his storied career. Along for the destruction are Fretless bass monster, Marco Mendoza (John Sykes, Whitesnake, Blue Murder & former touring member of the reunited Thin Lizzy) and the ONE & ONLY Hard Rock & Metal drum GOD…Mr. Tommy Aldridge (has played with EVERYBODY: Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers, Gary Moore, Ozzy, Whitesnake, Tony MacAlpine, etc). As anyone who might have caught Nugent out on the road in 2000 with KISS (I did!) can attest to, this line up was completely on fire. New breath was brought into some of these classic's and the bar was raised to new heights of Nugentisms.

This line up just tears through Nuge classic's like "Free For All", "Yank Me Crank Me", "Cat Scratch Fever", and "Great White Buffalo", as well as newer Nugent standards like "Fred Bear", "Snakeskin Cowboys" and "Paralyzed". This line up is just smokin' all through out Full Bluntal Nugity. Nugent yaps it up to the sold out Michigan crowd on this New Year's Eve show and has them eating out of his hand. Nugent has ALWAYS had the gift of gab and this show is a true testament that the man loves himself & what he does! In his early 50's when this was recorded in 2000, Nuge just simply kicked the shit out the audience at this performance. The man has always been a great bluesy guitar player, just ask him & he'll tell ya that!

Check out the furious version of one of my favorite riffs, "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang", where Mr. Nugent tears it up. What makes this CD is "Uncle" Ted's rants in between the songs. The guy has been a character for 40 years and is ON here. And so is the entire band! Tommy Aldridge just brings another dimension to ANY band that he's ever played with and Nugent is no exception. Is there a better Hard Rock drummer? I don't think so. The only problem is the mix. You have to really LISTEN for those infamous Aldridge bass drums they are almost completely lost in the mix. And usually on a live CD the kick drums are HUGE sounding, but unfortunately not here. It's a shame to have such a legend's work muffled.

Overall, Nugent does what you would expect from him…take no prisoners. This CD is advertised as 100% Live with no overdubs and it does sound that way, as most live records are "touched up" in the studio. The packing is pretty cool too with color live photos of the band in action and a written letter from Ted, Full Bluntal Nugity is a really good live statement from the living legend. If you fancy yourself a fan of all things Nugent, go out and pick this up, you won't be disappointed (except for the drum sound).

Nugent, Ted: Full Bluntal Nugity

My Score:

Decked out in full-on camouflage hunting gear, Nugent wielded two machine guns while raging, "Obama, he's a piece of shit. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary," he continued. "You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch." Nugent summed up his eloquent speech by screaming "freedom!"

For a draft dodging tool to proclaim liberty and allegiance to The Good o' USA and speak with such disrespect to its ruling politicians is very funny. Freedom? Only if it is a one way street! What a tool!!
