Acrophet: Corrupt Minds / Faded Glory (remasters)

A double re-release via Metal Mind Productions from the Wisconsin thrashers who emerged at the end of the 80's when the members of the band were all still teenagers. Clearly influenced by the Bay Area scene Acrophet never managed to reach the heights of Thrash's household names but succeeded in finding a loyal underground following.

Issued in 1988 Corrupt Minds has all the trademarks of youthful exuberance and retains a raw edge. Instrumental 'Intro to Corruption' leads into a slab of angry speed core with vocals and lyrics full of teenage angst, a rallying cry against authority. Simple song structures with a direct message are delivered at a breakneck pace but with little to differentiate each one from the next. As a debut album Corrupt Minds does its job but two decades on sounds horribly dated and amateur.

Faded Glory from 1990 would prove to be the final Acrophet album and found the band developing their sound with the benefit of experience. Whilst still a long way from what you would describe as refined some of the rough edges have been trimmed away and more diverse elements are introduced. Less intense than its predecessor Faded Glory is nevertheless the more worthy of the two albums and is evidence that the band had spent more time together in the studio both on song writing and honing their style. The riffs are more memorable and the lyrics have more depth both of which suggest that had Acrophet stayed together they could well have gone on to bigger and better things.
