What a way to make your Century Media debut! Sweden's Zonaria follow up their 2007 release Infamy and the Breed with their brand new CD for CM titled The Cancer Empire, a powerful and mature collection of melodic death metal that is sure to open the eyes of many extreme metal fans across the globe. Produced by the famed Fredrik Nordstrom at Studio Fredman, who has worked with such acts as Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, At the Gates, and many others, The Cancer Empire sounds like the work of a veteran band, not one who have only been together a few years and whose members are all in their early 20's. Full of monstrous guitar riffs, powerful drum work, symphonic keyboards, and effective vocal growls, The Cancer Empire shows a rapidly maturing band who are now ready to play with the big boys. The mixing of melodic lead guitar harmonies, booming riffs, and spooky synths dominate "Contra Mundum", while other tracks such as "Slaughter is Passion", "Crowning King Cancer", and "The Icon and the Faceless" are just great examples of extreme metal that has elements of death, black, thrash, and progressive metal styles. Big production values, brutal yet melodic arrangements, and most importantly, heavy songs that are instantly memorable, The Cancer Empire has it all and then some.
Zonaria are comprised of drummer Emanuel Isaksson, vocalist/guitarist Simon Berglund, guitarist Emil Nystrom, and bassist Markus Akebo, and together these guys make one formidable line-up. Chances are if you like bands such as Behemoth, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, Hypocrisy, and Dark Tranquility, you'll no doubt want to scoop this one up right away.
