Answer, The: Never Too Late

I had only heard about The Answer when I learned that they would be opening up for AC/DC during the bands recent tour and while I had not attended those shows it was reported that they were killing the audiences and leaving them screaming for more. Given that I was eager to give them a listen and now had my chance with this EP CD/DVD set called Never Too Late. The band hails from Belfast, Ireland and delivers a really healthy brand of Groove Hard Rock for lack of a better specification. I felt there were a lot of Led Zeppelin similarities based on the driving riffs of the guitar and pounding of the drums and let's face it, this is never a bad band to call to mind. The tunes are catchy with the easy to find yourself singing choruses and lyrics and with their singer Cormac, the notes seem to propel to the upper atmosphere. Really interesting stuff and with the EP only bearing four tunes I was left wanting more. "Never Too Late" rocks and my second favorite comes via "Come Follow Me". It's all good stuff at the end of the day and I am sure that there are incredible things ahead of these dudes if the right people are listening. The EP comes with a bonus DVD that is loaded with about 45 minutes of content that will allow you to gain a better understanding about them. We'll talk on that next.

DVD: "Never Too Late" (video), Interview with Cormac, Keep Believin, Interview with Paul, "Under The Sky", Interview with James, "Let The Good Times Roll, "Come Follow Me" (video), Interview with Micky, "Be What You Want" (video), "Be What You Want" (live in Japan), "Under The Sky" (unplugged).

*** The DVD portion of the EP is a nice treat because not only do we get the bands videos for most of the songs on the EP in addition to a few others that are incredibly appealing, we also get candid discussion from each of the bands four members. These chats are very informal and give a nice insight into the views of the band on their performing and making music together. From these discussions the viewer finds that the band are just regular guys out to play some Groove laden Rock and Roll. We even find a couple of moments of the band in the studio recording their music. The videos are pretty interesting and each of them managed to keep my attention for the duration of the song. Each finds the band in different scenarios such as a deserted metro station, a beach and a living room. Two of the songs are repeated but that is so they can feature a live version of one track and an unplugged version of the other. The band sounds nice and energetic live and also rather skilled at doing their material in a bare bones fashion.

This is a high recommendation for those fans of the Classic Rock vibe and while that is the easiest label, the band The Answer is a very fresh and exciting group that I feel has a lot to bring to the table going forward. One of the first pieces of copy I read about them informed me that this was "the next great thing" and I am hard pressed to disagree. Check it out, this is a super affordable release as well. Can't beat this in the current economy.
