NervoChaos: Quarrel In Hell

Despite guest appearances from members of Krisiun, Incantation, Dark Funeral, Napalm Death, and Averse Sefira, Quarrel in Hell from death metal act NervoChaos fails to miss the lofty marks that it seems to have been intended for. Sure, there's plenty of crushing death metal riffs ("Cursed Soul" is a monster of a track), pounding drums, and a variety of growls and screams, but so much of this has been done before, and better. When the formula works ("Scavengers of the Underworld" and "Putrid Pleasures") this can be an enjoyable release, but there's just too much generic death metal going on here, like on "Televangelism", "Nailed to the Bed of Worms", and "Everlasting Death", that doesn't really warrant repeated spins. Despite a really strong closing number "The Urge to Feel Pain" that crosses into many death metal styles (and stay awake for the bands rendition of Motorhead's "Iron Fist" tucked in at the end), Quarrel in Hell comes across as one of those releases that's worth a listen, but doesn't have much staying power in the end.
