Italy's masters of gothic/nu-metal Lacuna Coil have unleashed their first DVD here, titled Visual Karma (Body, Mind, and Soul) . It features two shows from two separate 2007 festivals, Wacken in Germany, and Loudpark in Japan. The Wacken show was filmed during the day, so you really can experience the full effect of the enormity of that festival, the many thousands of fans lining the fields in front of the stage as the band tears into an 11 song set list of Lacuna Coil classics. Visually, this show is very well done, the camera work is spot on and the audio excellent. The beautiful singer Cristina Scabbia and her male counterpart Andrea Ferro work the full length of the large stage, providing plenty of contrasts in their vocal styles to the band's crunchy, groove-laden blend of gothic rock and nu-metal. Many of their most popular tunes are on display here, such as "Our Truth", "Closer", "Fragile", "Enjoy the Silence", and "What I See". On the Loudpark set, we switch gears to an evening show, so the feel here is very different. Darker, and more intimate, the Loupark set is limited to six songs, but no less energetic than the Wacken performance. Though there are very few shots of the crowd, as opposed to the Wacken fans being a large part of that footage, you can tell by the response that the band was being well received. Most of the tracks are the same in both sets, save for "Daylight Dancer" and "Within Me" which were played in Tokyo.
Over on DVD 2, you get individual featurettes with each member of the band, which help you get to know these musicians a little better. Also, there are a few behind the scenes documentaries taking a look at the band's Australian and Japanese tours, plus videos of songs from the Karmacode albums. Overall, this 2DVD set is a fun look at this Italian band, and you should also be aware that there are multiple formats available, including a four disc set that also includes a CD.
