Hellveto: Neoheresy

It's with a bit of embarrassment that I found out I had Hellveto listed amongst my friends on myspace, and kind of forgot about them…One thing though, I knew the name was familiar at least! Anyhow, it's with great pleasure that I received this promo, which has been spinning quite a few times actually.

I was expecting something more on the Folk/Viking side, but Neoheresy is in fact leaning towards the symphonic style of the Pagan Metal realm. Hellveto can be perceived as a more metal sounding, and less redundant, version of Summoning. True that the music on this disc is somewhat repetitive and not too varied, still the short (35 minutes) listen never gets boring. The basic sound structure is built on mid-fast to faster tempos, distorted riffs, symphonic keyboards, rasps and epic percussions. Since this music is Folksy/Pagan Metal essentially, the epic and melodic elements are making a big difference, as far as the harmonies are concerned. Varied are the guitar work and vocals, plus you can hear some battlefield samplings in a couple places. The vocals can become pretty wicked and theatrical in some instances. The organic tonalities of acoustic guitars and mandolin help tremendously in creating that folkloric epic vibe so delicate to my ears.

Even if I enjoyed all the songs, the ones with more variation got my vote. They are: "Taran" and especially the awesome composition found on track #4, "Milczace Sumienie".
