Bulbul: Bulbul 6

To say that this album is different is a little like saying water is kind of wet. With no real form or structure, it is impossible to classify this work by the Austrian band Bulbul. Relying more on sound effects, strange noises than any form of song structure, this is abstract musical art in the most extreme. Although they can and do deliver some very high quality moments such as the song "Tighter" and the mostly heavy metal "Tighten", there is much of this album that will leave you scratching your head. The best moment is a pure bit of rock and roll called "Dust In My Zimmer" but at less than 2 minutes, it is not enough to make up for the remainder of the disc.

With forays into dance, industrial and even a disco twinge now and then, Bulbul, when they do decide to go with a melody, never rest on its laurels. That is for sure! The remainder of the disc is something for the very extreme taste. Like with the almost four minutes of random drum sounds called "Chang Zheng", or the eleven minutes of random special effect sounds titled "Das Stuck", this is an acquired taste to say the least.

While there may be many who can find enjoyment in a disc like this, there is just not enough on here to ever make me want to pull it off the shelf again.
