Deeds of Flesh: Of What's to Come

The crew at Unique Leader Records sure know how to find the best technical death metal bands on the planet. One of the key acts on their roster is Deeds of Flesh, and their latest CD Of What's To Come continues where albums like Path of the Weakening and Crown of Souls left off. This time around, amidst all the pummeling arrangements, the band tosses in a heaping amount of lead guitar & bass solos, so expect not only insanely complex & brutal riffs, but blinding leads as well, more so than ever before from this group. Most of the tracks here are in the 3-5 minute range, and each and every one is a complete mind-blower. "Eradication Pods" features blazing stop-start riffs and lightning fills, the stellar production allowing all the instruments to come across very clear in the mix. Vocals of course are deep growls and some screams, very effective in these busy songs and well executed. The band will make your head dizzy on "Unearthly Invent", and lengthier cut "Waters Of Space" is a real treat of epic, complex, death metal, rivaling anything from bands like Decrepit Birth, Spawn of Possession, or Nile. The insane drum blasts of "Century Of The Vital" are simply some of the sickest you will hear, Mike Hamilton playing like a man possessed, but he's supported by blistering bass and guitar lines weaving around and through each other...terrifyingly complex stuff here folks. Evil grpwls act as another instrument on the menacing "Harvest Temples", a crushing piece that sees the guitars, bass, drums, and vocals all hammering together through the mix, melodic lead guitar lines providing the only respite from the bludgeoning.

After making your way through Of What's to Come, you'll need to take a DEEP breath, then no doubt you'll want to hit the replay button to make sure what you think you just heard is actually what you just heard. This is insane stuff, some of the most brutal and complex death metal I've heard in ages. Deeds of Flesh continue to amaze time and time again, and this one shows there's no stopping them.
