Messenger, The: Let's Get Dangerous

California band The Messenger have released their debut record Let's Get Dangerous via Mediaskare Records, and it's a melodic Orange County record. What does that mean? Fairly passionate whiny vocals over somewhat catchy songs in a post "punk" world.

The first thing that is noticed on this release is that there is nothing new to be found here, hence the Orange County reference. Melodic, Yes. Intuitive, no. The Messenger does bring a bit of hard rock to the party, check out the CD opener, "This Eagle Has Landed". Complete with screamo vocals and nice guitar riffing, it's a good way to open this record. Another standout track is the alluring "Hey, Vanity!" This is The Messenger at their most Metal on the CD.

This is a young band, so growth is expected, but they do show some good musicianship and not just your average 3 chord blah, blah, blah. The Messenger show that melodic sensibilities are their main focus in their songwriting and the attention to detail is not unnoticed. The Messenger are a very energetic band that at times show glimpses of metallic layers at their core. If you're into a Power Pop/Orange County/Hard Rock type of thing, check 'em out. The more you listen the better they sound.

My Score:

If you don't check them out, then you're missing out! If you haven't saw them live the get to it! They're amazing. They're not your average "FOB" pop band either. There is actual meaning in their songs. So check them out!
