I can only imagine standing along a fjord on the Norway coast. Staring out into the desolation and feeling the cold sea spray. Looking out at this stark landscape, it is not hard to think that you might be the only person left in the world. This is the music of From Beneath Billows.
Minimalistic in its nature, the dark gloom they create with their brand of metal is something of an acquired taste but once you do, it's not hard to find times when this is a perfect companion piece. Right now I am sitting here with a foot of snow blanketing the land around us. Pretty much everything is at a standstill. Looking out, I see what I am hearing from this band. Come next summer and we are along the beaches of Lake Michigan, I don't think that this is the music we will want with us, but as a mood piece, Evolve is definitely winter in Michigan!
Haunting, cold and at times even creepy, From Beneath Billows makes you feel like the last person on Earth. Even the growling, snarling vocals of Lars Sundsbo will fill you with a feeling of total isolation. Life is filled with many moods and not all of them are ones we want to share. When this is the case, here is the album that will keep you company!
