Swedish metal band The Haunted return with their latest album Versus, their first self titled album saw the light in 1998, the band going on to release further CD's and experience various lineup changes over the years. Versus is a diverse release of in your face heavy metal from this five piece band. Versus also shows The Haunted aren't an easy band to classify, as you will discover the resulting tracks on this release are quite varied, ranging from thrashing numbers like "Crusher" to heavy metal rockers like "Rivers Run".
"Moronic Colossus" opens with some imposing guitar and powerful drumming, vocalist Peter Dolving demonstrates his versatile and commanding vocals. Next, and one of the standout tracks, "Pieces", the guitar from Ander Bjorler and Jensen hooks you from the beginning and drummer Per Moller Jenssen adds some very nice touches. "Little Cage" sees The Haunted break into rampant thrash mode, changing again for "Trenches" and "Ceremony" a pair of crunchy mid paced tracks. "Skull" is the softest track but they soon return to the thrash with the dominating "Crusher".
