With pounding drums and intense orchestration, Light This City begins their swan song album Stormchaser. This is the lull before Laura Nichol unleashes her vocal tempest and the sudden squall of thrashing guitars, courtesy of Brian Forbes and Ryan Hansen, batter you like the driving rain! With all these meteorological forces aligned against you, there is little choice but to be sucked into the world of the "Stormchaser".
The band has decided to call it quits but not before giving the fans a last treat which is a glimpse of what might have been. Stormchaser is an album filled with the fiery thrash sound which you have come to expect from Light This City but they have added a melodic element to the music that makes this album one of the best death/thrash offerings this year. The whole band seems determined to make this final offering something memorable. Laura is on fire, even more so than you have become accustom to in the past. Both guitarists are amazing and this disc is filled with some of the most searing solos you are ever going to hear.
They might be saying goodbye, but they are doing so with a gusto and fervor which tells me that the spirit of the band is still alive and kicking. Let's just hope that they realize somewhere in the future that there is something special here. We can only wonder of what might have come. At least they leave you with a great piece of metal which will keep you banging away for years to come!
