Their name translates to Druid of the Stone Forest. Drawing on this mythical landscape as the back drop for this lavish bit of Finnish folk metal, Kivimetsan Druidi manages to create a tasty bit of musical magic. It doesn't matter that half of the album is in their native tongue. The music is overwhelming and the offsetting vocals of female soprano Leeni-Maria Hovila and growling Joni Koskinen will inspire you to think of the battle between good and evil or maybe even the lands of Middle Earth. It's a highly imaginative album and will keep you coming back for more with its swirling, majestic, even epic collage of sound.
This six piece band boasts some very outstanding musicians. While the duel guitars of Antti Rinkinen and Joni Koskinen may be the heart of the group, Antti Koskinen on keyboards is the secret weapon. While the frenzy of the six strings are tearing through you, it is Koskinen who keeps the chaos from spinning out of control with his eloquent playing. The grandiose feel of the music is in the subtle work of this master musician.
Never before in my life has there been an album by a group whose name I couldn't pronounce, singing in a language that I couldn't understand, producing an album that I must have!
