Pop Evil: Lipstick On The Mirror

Leading off with a searing guitar that grabs you from the second that the pick hits the string, your entry into the metal world created by Pop Evil has begun! When Matt DiRito then hits his bass with a single reverberating note that travels the length of your spine, it sets the tone for what is about to be unleashed upon you. Suddenly lead singer Leigh Kakaty releases a hellish scream that raises the hairs on the back of the neck and you are now fully engulfed by the force that is Pop Evil.

This is the beginning of the song "Hero". With a thumping tidal wave of rock and roll, they announce that Pop Evil is on the way. You had better step aside or get ready to be swept up into the frenzy that songs such as this one has created. With massive airplay and their videos now in constant rotation, Pop Evil can no longer be classified as Michigan's best kept secret.

By creating music that is not only personal but touches the listener in some profound way. Whether it's hammering them over the head with their electrifying metal sound or worming their way into your heart with a very personal message, this is a band that will affect you on many different levels. One such song is the deeply emotional "Somebody Like You". With a message that hits home with every full grown human being, they emphasize the moving lyrics with a guitar attack that punctuates Leigh's soulful vocals.

Then there are the songs that just sweep you up and make you say "Yeah, I know just what you're talking about". "100 in a 55" is one example. With a blend of acoustic and dramatic metal emphasis, this is a power ballad that I guarantee will have you thinking that Pop Evil wrote the song just for you! These are real guys, telling about real things that happen to each and every one of us. That is what makes this band a step above the norm. They are the guys who live right down the street and when they speak, it's the words and thoughts of someone who has been where you are.

The music that they create is as diversified as the band itself. With 5 guys who come from 5 different cultural backgrounds, the sound that they produce reflects this eclectic group. They always have one foot in the metal music that is the foundation of Pop Evil, the other foot may be touching on the rap background of singer Leigh Kakaty or it might be in the grungy sound that reflects their gritty personality. No matter what style they do hit you with, there is little doubt that you will feel the punch as they land haymaker after haymaker on you! Even when they use the mellow touch as in the dynamic "Steeping Stone" it is just the jab before the knockout blow. By the end of the disc you will think that you have just been 13 rounds with the heavyweight champions of rock and roll.
