Great to see a region like Singapore is being properly represented on black metal's world stage courtesy of Impiety, a horde of maniacs that have been pumping out their brand of skull shattering metal since the early 90's. This is after all the band that gave us the unforgettable Skullfucking Armageddon album in 1999. Hot on the heels of their 18th anniversary compilation disc released earlier this year, entitled appropriately enough 18 Atomic Years Satanniversary, the band has now put out this killer EP of five songs called Dominator.
You've got to hand to these guys; they sure know how to serve up on hell of an old fashioned ass kicking. One can almost taste acrid smell of the horses' breath as the shimmering swords are drawn form their sheaths on the opening battle cry of "Introbliteration". This brief intro then wastes little time before slamming headlong into the pummeling, breakneck tempos of "Slaughterror Superiority. Vocalist Shyaithan at times sounds like Cronos from Venom right down to the bestial grunts, yet only ten times more demonic. The riffs are brutal and right where they should be, which is in your face, while the drum tempos are of the lighting quick, blast beat variety. The band tears through the remaining three tracks "Dominator", a cover of Sarcaofago's "The Black Vomit" and closer "At War With Temujin" (aka Genghis Khan) with equal haste.
If I had to compare Impiety's straight amped up, potent mix of death and black metal, the underground cult sounds of Mexico's Hecavitz comes to mind. It's no surprise that one current and one ex-member of Hecavitz were at one time amongst the ranks of Impiety. Although it barely clocks in at fifteen minutes total, there's plenty of raw, brutal sounding mayhem at work on Dominator to give you a good old fashioned case of head bangers whiplash. So what are you waiting for? Get out your neck brace and get busy!
