Lost To The Living is Doom Metal Band Daylight Dies' latest and second release on Candlelight records. Based in North Carolina, the inception of Daylight Dies was in 1996, releasing their first album in 2002 titled No Reply, following up with 2006's Dismantling Devotion. Daylight Dies lineup consists of Nathan Ellis on vocals, Bass player Egan O'Rourke, Guitarist's Barre Gambling and Charley Shackelford, and Drummer Jesse Haff. There are similarities to bands like Opeth in the style of music and combination of both clean/dark vocals.
This new CD features nine compelling tracks of fine Melodic, Doom Metal. A dark atmospheric feel prevails; Daylight Dies conveys haunting music, enticing the listener into their eerie creation. Sinister vocal tones persist throughout, after the calm instrumental start of "Cathedral" builds up, Nathan Ellis growls come into play. The album contains many cool sections during the songs where the other members get to shine and display their skills. "And a Slow Surrender" being the only full, not to mention enjoyable, instrumental, while "Descending" is another of the many impressive tracks, complete with some fine guitar work on this one.
I can't fault this CD, Daylight Dies Lost To The Living is one of the top releases in its genre for 2008.
