In the mood for some brutal Swedish Death Metal? Then be sure to pick up the latest from Coldworker, titled Rotting Paradise, a brutal, smoldering platter of extremity, mixed and mastered by none other than Dan Swano at his famous Unisound studio. This thing's just relentless from start to finish, crushing guitars colliding with jackhammer drum blasts and unholy growls, the classic Swedish sound coming at you full force like an onslaught of unstoppable demons. Former Nasum drummer Anders Jakobson leads the charge here, joined by vocalist Joel Fornbrant, guitarists Anders Bertilsson & Daniel Schroder, and bassist Oskar Palsson, and together they churn out stellar death metal numbers like "The Black Dog Syndrome", "Citizens of the Cyclopean Maze", and "Deliverance of the Rejected", songs with not only great titles & deliciously lurid lyrics, but with enough extreme metal firepower to back it all up. Strongest cut though has to be the groove laden but brutally heavy piece "Paradox Lost", featuring some of the best riffs on the CD and blinding drum work from Jakobson. Though there is some complex guitar playing and drumming here, I wouldn't lump this in with some of the technical death metal acts out there, but Coldworker certainly hold their own alongside veterans like Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Grace, Bloodbath, and Vader.
In summary, this is good, solid Swedish death metal, and a release that any metal fan into the bands mentioned should check out. And how about that Slayer inspired cover huh?
