The band has been kicking around since 1976. Like fellow countrymen AC/DC, they have produced a continuous output of very good rock and roll. Though the band has had its ups and downs, along with many line-up changes, they have always been true to themselves and their music. Although they never earned the acclaim or popularity of that other band, Rose Tattoo has been an influence on many of the future generations of rock and rollers. Later bands like Guns N Roses, LA Guns and Nashville Pussy have all done covers of their music.
So, now comes along their most recent effort Blood Brothers. This disc is filled with what has been the bands mainstay. Gut churning rock and roll. With more of a nod to catchy riff filled melodies, this disc could very easily hit the airwaves with songs like "Slipping Away" and the anthem like "Nothing To Lose". Angry Anderson's vocals have always reminded me of Steve Marriott of Humble Pie and on this disc maybe even more so. Add to that the slide guitar that has always been in abundance with these guys and you have a terrific slice of vintage rock and roll.
With this special tour edition you get a DVD of their 2006 performance at the Wacken Open Air Festival. This 13 song concert takes you through the history of the band and is a fitting tribute to their musical career. Also there is an interview which like most material of this kind is worth at most a listen or two.
The kind of bluesy rock and roll that you find on Blood Brothers is just a footstompin' good time of the old school variety. I went in search of my old Foghat records soon after listening to this one!
