With the exception of a compilation album in the late 90's which included four live tracks, and the Live:With Full Force DVD issued in 2007, this live EP Live + 1 from 1995 remains the only other live document to have been released thus far from Louisiana's favorite merchants of sludge Crowbar.
Recorded on their home turf at the Music Hall in New Orleans in early 1994 this disc finds the band, Kurt Windstein (guitars, vocals), Matt Thomas (guitars), Todd Strange (bass) and Craig Nunenmacher (drums) plowing through 5 tracks from their self titled release issued the previous year, along with one from their debut Obedience Through Suffering. It's not clear whether this was a headlining set for the band or if they were in an opening slot but one thing is certain and that is, these songs are delivered with an utmost sense of urgency which unfortunately comes off as sounding rushed at times, as if the band was on a tight schedule. Kurt's trademark ball crushing vocals are in full effect and the riffs are as always, thick as concrete. Overall this disc is fairly representative of what this era of the band sounded like in their natural environment. This isn't what I'd call an essential purchase though unless you're a die hard fan of the band, but even then you could probably afford to pass on this one. The folks at Metal Mind though have done a great job by remastering a little piece of history and making it available once again, which by the way comes in a numbered, limited edition digipak.
