Aetherius: All That I Need To Survive

With this kind of debut from the Massachusetts based Aetherius, the world of progressive rock had better watch the skies for a new rising star. From the guitar driven works such as "Minding The Hourglass and "6" to the almost New Age sounding "Evolve or Dissolve" the band creates a sonic landscape that is as compelling as any in the genre. From start to finish this is an album that keeps you entertained by leading you down many a different path but never straying too far from the guitar sound that will make them a force to be reckoned with in the years to come.

As many bands tend to keep their sound within a limited boundary, Aetherius pushes the limits and is never afraid to delve into new territory. They might just pound you with a brutal crunching guitar attack as in "Hold Onto Your Dream" or they may seduce you with a hauntingly mesmerizing piece as in the epic 12 minute "Rainbands". The one thing you can rely on is that wherever they may lead, you will only benefit from following them. Each song on the disc is a rewarding piece that will by the end of the album, leave you wanting more.

The band members are known only by their initials because as STB told me "We only want the world to see what we believe to be the worthy part of our personalities, which is the musical side." They will not be able to keep themselves hidden for long. With works like this they are destined to become a new voice in the progressive market. They have recently added a female singer to the band and I am anxiously waiting to see where it may lead. They have set the bar pretty high with All That I Need To Survive and I am betting that this is only the beginning for such a talent laden band.
