Emigrate: Emigrate

Does the name Richard Z Kruspe ring any bells? How about his main band Rammstein? Well, Emigrate is the debut album from their guitarist, and yes, parts are reminiscent of his other band except for one glowing difference, the vocals are in English.

In some ways I have always thought of Rammstein as the AC/DC of metal, lots of super catchy repetitive riffs. Emigrate follows that trend at first but also adds something as it's less predictable, especially as the album progresses, Kruspe really branches out with metal and rock songs. Richard's vocals compliment the material well and his guitar playing is more diverse. Title track and opener "Emigrate" would feel right at home on any Rammstein release it's a great infectious song, "Wake Up" reminds me of their faster moments and Ministry for that matter as does "My World", another catchy pounder. "Let Me Break", "In My Tears" and "Babe" are more laid back, bursting to life with powerful choruses. "New York City" is an upbeat groover; another top track is "Resolution" which returns to the heavier side of the album. "Temptation" could easily be a single, a very appealing song. "This Is What" is a lively track, and "You Can't Get Enough" closes the album, a lighter track with an agreeable chorus.

It's been a while since we heard a new Rammstien CD, so I am glad I discovered Emigrate. This just isn't filler till that new CD arrives, it's a striking release on its own with many hooks. So don't go expecting Rammstein's latest, Emigrate is no cover band.
