Moore, Gary: Bad For You Baby

Legendary guitarist Gary Moore returns with another collection of emotional blues and stirring hard rock on Bad For You, his latest release for Eagle Rock Records. Those wanting to hear more rock fire from the former Thin Lizzy & Colliseum guitar hero will be happy with the results here, as his screaming Les Paul licks are all over this 11 track outing of covers and original material. Opening title cut is a fiery blast of molten blues rock solos and aggressive vocals from Moore, leading into the rollicking blues shuffle of "Down the Line". From the funky blues rock of the Robin Trower-ish "Umbrella Man" to the Stevie Ray Vaughan styled romp "Walkin' Thru the Park", there's no shortage of blistering uptempo numbers here that show off Moore's commanding chops and solid vocals. Though some tunes sound like avenues that he's travelled a bit much over the last two decades, like "Mojo Boogie" and "Someday Baby", he mixes in some slower, darker blues numbers and ballads here such as "Holding On", "Did You Ever Feel Lonely?", "Trouble Ain't Far Behind", and "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" that add some variety here and allow the guitar player to dive into some passionate & emotional slow blues territory.

If you've been following Gary Moore since the early 90's, then Bad For You Baby will fit in rather nicely among his blues rock releases, a direction he chose to go after spending much of the 80's churning out hard rock and metal. This guy can still wail on the guitar, so be on the lookout for an abundance of white hot Gibson Les Paul blues shredding going on here.
