Do heavy crunching metallic riffs topped off with hard edged vocals and vigorous drumming interest you? If so, new Austrian heavy metal band Artas have plenty on their debut release The Healing. The five members have created a potent metal album, coupled with a clear/impressive sound. Lyrically there's a blend of English, German and Spanish that works favorably with the contrasting vocals, on this "Modern Metal" release as they refer to their style of music.
Children Of Bodom added a dose or two of metal to Britney's "Oops I Did It Again", but Alexi Laiho doesn't exactly have pop star vocals so it was a fun version. Well on here Artas have taken Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" up a level by adding their style of metal to the song. The result is ok but honestly this tune could have been left off, there are far better tracks on here, such as 'Barbossa" with it's contagious riffs and "Rhagenfels" one of the thrashier metal tracks. The Healing is a good first effort from Artas, certainly one of the better debuts I have listened to lately.
