Sim Redmond Band, The: Room In These Skies

Any album that begins with a song called "Roll a Few" is bound to be a laid-back affair. And that's exactly what the Ithaca, N.Y.-based Sim Redmond Band gives us on its seventh studio outing, the optimistically titled Room In These Skies. The band is led by guitarist/vocalist Sim Redmond and Natalie Merchant-like vocalist Jen Middaugh, and like laser beams of sunshine, Room In These Skies is a call for musical unity, with touches of African spirit ("1000 Years"), breezy acoustic-pop bliss (the title track) and progressive reggae ("Fun and Games"). Dusty and dreamy at the same time, this is boundary-free music by which to either begin or end your day. Either way, if you like even a little bit of roots in your music, make room in your collection for Room In These Skies.
