Christian metal band Jacobs Dream's latest release is titled Dominion of Darkness, containing thirteen tracks including the instrumental "Hands of Doom". I have to admit, while it's not a bad album, I was probably expecting more from this former Metal Blade Records band. Dominion of Darkness isn't full of riveting heavy metal, the fact is so many bands keep raising the bar that it's hard not to make comparisons. It's fine to have so many tracks if the material is there to do it, nine of the best tracks on here would have been better.
Check it out for yourself and be the judge. The market is currently pretty well flooded with this sort of metal. If Jacobs Dream wants to get noticed they need to kick it up a notch and use the potential that's evident on Dominion of Darkness, or past releases Theater of War and Drama of the Ages. The guitar work and lead vocals are their strongest assets, but they still haven't built on that. Depending on your tastes, you may indeed disagree and find lots to enjoy with what Jacob's Dream have put together here.
