Sunn 0))): White 1

The pacific northwest ain't done churning out challenging, mood-alterting music yet, baby. One needs only to check out bands such as Agalloch and Sunn 0))) to hear that I'm speaking the truth. White 1 is a three-track experiment in frightening, progressive ambient metal that will appeal not only to lovers of noise rock, space rock, but psychedelia too. Comprised of Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley, this release also features underground hero Julian Cope among others.

Check out the eerie, opening "My Wall," or the closing "A Shaving Of The Horn That Speared You" for a full education in new sonics. Then again, "The Gates Of Ballard," isn't so bad either. Meant to be listened to in a darkened room.

My Score:

Ridiculously good. Anybody into weird, obscure, dark, eerie, somber, droning landscapes will love this. The closest comparison I have is Boris but they're still pretty far apart because Boris is a mercurial shape-shifter that produces a different sound on each cd. Fans of super-slow, elongated doom/sludge will go nuts over this one. Or anyone that's open-minded.
