Bahimiron: Southern Nihilizm

Texas black metallers Bahimiron deliver their latest platter of hate on Moribund Records this time around, titled Southern Nihilizm. Don't be expecting something along the lines of other popular US black metal acts like Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, Epoch of Unlight, or Goatwhore, instead these guys for the juggular with a non-stop barrage of Norwegian styled old-school black metal, complete with crazed blast beats, furious cold guitar riffing, and the maniacal screeching vocals of demented bandleader Grimlord. Like their mates in Averse Sefira, Bahimiron channel that classic, brutal sound here, although there's probably a tad less melody on Southern Nihilizm than you'd find on any AS release. Tracks like "Chambers Empty" and "Shattered and Crowned in Deceit" are truly monstrous pieces, a wicked combination of early Immortal and Dark Funeral, sure to scare your neighbors and wake the dead. Not so sure that their mix of southern groove and black metal, like on "Pills and 90 Proof" and "A Shank in the Guts" works as well, but at least it adds a little variety to what is otherwise a pummeling release. Best example of the pure unadulterated brutality these guys can conjure up is the crushing title track, and blood & vomit soaked slice of extreme US black metal.

Nothing fancy or overly original here, but for some freakin' extreme & heavy black metal from the good 'ol US of A, can't go wrong with Southern Nihilizm.
