Nevermore vocalist Warrel Dane had his solo turn earlier this year with the impressive release Praises To The War Machine. Well now it's guitarist Jeff Loomis' turn with the guitar shredding metal album Zero Order Phase. Growing up in the 80s I couldn't get enough of the guitar driven instrumental metal albums of the likes of Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, and Marty Friedman. I was just blown away with the skill level of all those involved, so I had to get a copy of this given his contributions to Nevermore- how could you go wrong! Jeff Loomis plays guitar and bass on here showing what a versatile and talented player he is, and backing him up on drums and percussion is Mark Arrington, who does an impressive job complementing Jeff's guitar work. This album has everything any guitar lover or any metal fan for that matter could want. First time I heard the start of opener "Shouting Fire At A Funeral" I knew this album was going to rock and believe me it does, many cool riffs are here to be discovered. There are also guest appearances on guitar from Ron Jarzombeck, Pat O'Brien and album producer Neil Kernon, and Michael Manring contributes a bass solo on the track "Cashmere Shive". Honestly this is one album that you just want to crank right up and blow the neighbors away with!
