Rob Rock's one of the best voices in metal- his last two solo CD's Holy Hell and Garden Of Chaos featured some great music and very impressive performances all around. Well, this isn't another solo album but a new project called Fires Of Babylon. You would think from the title this sounds like a religious album, well, both main writers, guitarist Lou St Paul and Rob Rock, have strong beliefs hence the title. Once you hear the songs you realize there are not only religious but also political topics contained on this CD. Examples from two tracks:
"Lazurus Rising":
If you were here you could have saved him
But now he's lost, gone with the dead
If you believe the power of Jesus
You will see, he will rise again
"Generation Of Destruction":
Corruption, deception, propaganda and power
Slander, liars, a nation devoured
Political head games and selfish ambition
Fighting for leverage and position
Fires Of Babylon is a CD with plenty of quick double kick from drummer Robert Falzano and great guitar driven music with lots of shredding from Lou St. Paul. The first thing I noticed is the production isn't as polished as most metal releases which is a nice change and really gives the songs an edge. There is plenty of variety and great vocals on here combined with powerful metal. Fires Of Babylon is one of the best debuts I've heard in a while, and if you like well played US metal the ten tracks on the this CD will definately appeal to you.
