Not surprisingly, everything about this album — which uses contributions from members of Nine Inch Nails, Telefon Tel Aviv, Ministry and Slipknot to deconstruct and reinterpret songs from Puscifer's 2007 debut V Is For Vagina — screams, howls and moans sex: the name of the group (which essentially is comprised solely of Tool's Maynard James Kennan), the outrageous artwork and blue-pill inside packaging, song titles like "Vagina Mine [Deflowering Mix]" and "Country Boner [Dirty Robot Mix]," and the music itself. Dense, groovy, murky, danceable and unashamedly repetitive, the sounds of V Is For Viagra: The Remixes may not be too far removed from their original form — a terrifying prospect for fans of the more progressive and more metal Tool and A Perfect Circle. These versions go on way too long and are enough to fray the nerves of less-adventurous listeners.
And the juvenile humor? Not so funny. (A public service announcement at the end of the record congratulates listeners for making it to the end thusly: "Thank you for popping in. We hope you come again real soon." That is followed by the irresistibly catchy "Country Boner [Disco Viagra Mix]," which boasts so much potential to offend that it defies description.
Amidst the beats and drones and nonsense are two songs that represent either end of the Puscifer spectrum: "Drunk with Power [Hungover and Hostile in Hannover Mix]" by Slipknot's Joey Jordison devolves into rap lyrics, while the trippy "Momma Sed [Tandimonium Mix]" by Skinny Puppy producer Dave Ogilvie and Colin Janz sounds more like a "real" song than certainly anything else on this mess of a record.
